Jonny Bucknell - Lockdown

Has lockdown been a waste of time?

The first report I have heard of the virus was in October 2019 when staff at my sailing club reported a strange flu that could not be identified. This was just after some Chinese visitors had visited.

We know that some people do not know that they have had the virus while other have suffered a nasty death.

The driving force behind lockdown was Professor from Imperial College who claimed to have a computer program that could predict the spread. There does not seem to be anything in this program to account for people building up their own immunity.

This is  the fundamental of herd immunity. The animals at the centre are struck down badly and those at the edge have time to build up an immunity. A Professor at Oxford university commented that ‘half the country has probably got it already’.

The source of the virus remains a mystery. Did it is come from a wet market or leak out of a virology laboratory in the same town?

Many experts have commented that they have never seen anything like it before in nature. Germs warfare is the ultimate aim of any dictator without morals. The enemy is wiped out without any damage to the infrastructure of the country being invaded. The Germans tried it with mustard gas in the second world war.

If the virus was manmade, they experts were out of their depth and should have admitted so in the first place.

A great many people have noted coughs and a strange flue well before lockdown. This was probably them catching the virus.

We know that the virus is on everything we touch and breath. Masks have been described as having limited benefit. If you are coughing badly they probably keep the virus from spreading from you but they don’t stop you breathing it in.

The 6m social distancing rule does not seem to have had and clinical substance and was made up. On a windy day I am sure that the virus travels more than 6m.

There does not seem to be any evidence for long hand washing. There are no clinical trials to judge the amount of bacteria that is removed with a normal quick wash as opposed to two minutes. I suspect that 90% of bacteria is removed in the normal hand wash.

The problem is that the government advisers have been powerful personalities and no one dares to stand up to them. Everything seems to have been thought up as they went along. There are too many experts. The sole purpose of an expert seem to be to make a computer prediction that unless we curtail our freedoms disaster will occur. They all form cliques and 97% agree with each other and grab the headlines.

The 3% that disagree do not get a look in.

Lockdown was only going to work if everyone went around in space suits and this was not going to happen. People were discouraged from taking in sunlight that builds up our immune system.

No evidence has been given as to why there will be a ‘second wave’. The only explanation I can think of is the some people ignored government guidelines while others followed them to the letter. People who had faithfully stayed indoors might have caught the virus as soon as they ventured outside.

There is no explanation as to why crowds heading for the beaches did not cause a spike.

We now have the ridiculous situation of having to wear a mask when we go into a shop but not if we go to the pub.

The A level assessment system is in chaos.

Across the North Sea in Sweden it is a different story with their light touch lockdown. We have suffered 609 deaths per million and they have 572.

Our policy was to try and stop the virus spreading and it has been a disaster. The Swedish policy has been to allow the virus to spread and it has been a success.

The Swedish economy has taken a slight hit while our government is penniless. The British government is £130bn in debt and spending more that it earns. The government has no idea how the debt will be paid off.

Some elderly people have been so traumatised that they will be fearful of ever coming out again. Transport for London has been given on £2bn pound bailout and has asked the government for more. Lockdown has caused a complete slowdown of the economy.

The government is trying to kick start the economy with funding but Gordon Brown proves that this does not work. ‘Taxation stifles aspiration’ and the only thing that stimulated the economy is lowering taxes and cutting government expenditure. I can’t see this happening.

There have been winners and losers. Some business have simply given up while others have pushed the guidelines to the limits and made money.

There has been one advantage in that when we finally get back to normal we will be a far more efficient country. For years I was pioneering video conferencing but it was not taking off. A large number of people have now learned how to Zoom and will not be rushing around the country with face to face meetings.

We used to change our smart phones, our cars, and our spouses every five years.

We will now be cherishing our smart phones!
