Linda - the state of play today

State of play today…..

I think I might have mentioned a while ago I’m having some over the phone counselling sessions with a woman called Laura from CAS….Camden Alcohol Service…..

I’ve had four or is it five sessions with her and thus far have yet to feel that I’m getting much if any benefit from doing so.

I had high hopes initially but as time has passed am progressively finding that I dread the concept of talking to her which I don’t think is a good sign.

Perhaps it’s because I find her voice has such a  resigned flatness to it, a bit like a piece of blotting paper that has seen better days which I find very unappealing… entirely lacking in warmth and any vestige of animation. ……. I suspect if I casually bumped into Laura in the street I wouldn’t hang around for very long chatting as I’d find her both draining and exceedingly boring..

Maybe all counsellors have voices like that I don’t know as I’ve never spoken to one before…

Anyway we’re supposed to be having another conflab later this morning and I must say I’m very tempted to turn my phone off at the appointed time which reminds me I must check out when that is just in case I answer by mistake.

Her first words of priceless advice to me at the end of our second session were…….when you feel like having a drink try and resist the temptation…..and I thought ….well if I could do that love I wouldn’t need to be talking to you in the first place would I?…derrrr.

It seemed like a ridiculously facile comment to make and she’s always banging on about the health risks as well which I find non-constructive…..I’m perfectly aware of the health risks Sweetheart and don’t need to be reminded thanks….not!!!

So all in all I’m under-impressed by progress to date but I suppose I should stick with it…..hang on a sec….just pouring myself another glass…..
