BAME issues

There has been much on the news recently about members of BAME communities having far higher fatalities from Covid19 than the white population…… this has inevitably become linked in with the Black Lives Matter movement as if in some way they are inexorably connected but are they?
Certainly there are many people of colour working on the frontline which obviously puts anyone more at risk from contracting the virus whatever the colour of their skin but interestingly the only statistics with regards to those workers overall dying have been restricted more or less specifically to BAME workers.
Why is that and why has there been no mention for instance of the fact that the orthodox Jewish community have also been hit very badly by coronavirus?
Typically many BAME groups suffer a far higher rate of diabetes and also sickle cell anaemia plus which dark skins do not absorb vitamin D anywhere near as much as white skins. Vitamin D is vitally important in terms of boosting the immune system. These factors are clearly very relevant especially the last one.
There is no doubt whatsoever either that the government’s slow response in providing PPE for all frontline works as a matter of urgency from the outset of the pandemic has also been a key factor.
In the same way that basically evicting elderly patients from hospital and sending them to care home without being tested for the virus has caused countless numbers of un-necessary deaths because once there they have infected other residents already in situ.
That idiot Matt Hancock has fallen over himself backwards to absolve the government’s responsibility for this of course as has Worzel Gummidge/Billy Bunter aka Boris Johnson but at the end of the day it was undeniably an untimely death sentence for many lovely old people.
But there will be a reckoning…..I sincerely hope a group of bereaved relatives will get together and take the government to court…
However that being said I think government’s worldwide have drastically failed to learn lessons regarding how to deal with this horrendous virus altho notably certain countries have dealt with it brilliantly.
